Sibley Peteet Design completes
Trival Pursuit DVD Star Wars Board Game.

On April 2, 2005, Hasbro released Trivial Pursuit DVD Star Wars Saga Edition, what many are calling the most visually rich DVD board game ever produced. The DVDs for the game were created by Sibley Peteet.

The game includes a total of 700 puzzles on two DVDs – over five and a half hours of animation and video. The trivia ranges from questions about the story and characters in the Star Wars films to questions about the actors, crew, and filming techniques.

Sibley Peteet was responsible for all aspects of the DVD content including developing concepts for how puzzles are played, designing each of the 18 different puzzle styles, designing the complex menu system, and creating seamless playback throughout.

Early reviews of the game have been extremely positive. The Spring issue of Toy Wishes magazine included Trivial Pursuit DVD Star Wars on its list of the top 12 toys for the Summer. The game has also been mentioned on CNN.com and EntertainmentWeekly.com.

Many aspects of the game have created a buzz among the fans. One puzzle style features actual Star Wars fans describing scenes from the films. The fans auditioned for a spot in the game at the Lucas booth at ComicCon in San Diego in July 2004. Sibley Peteet shot nearly 50 fan performances, and twenty of those performances were included in the game.

Another exciting aspect is the inclusion of content from the film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the climactic end to George Lucas’ historic film series. The game includes dozens of video clips and stills from Revenge of the Sith, an unprecedented move by Lucas Licensing considering that the game was released six weeks prior to the release of the film.

Trivial Pursuit DVD games are a combination of traditional board game play and multimedia presentation. Players move around the board by correctly answering trivia questions from cards, but to win the game, they must collect a “scoring wedge” for each of the six categories. These wedges can only be won by correctly answering a question from the DVDs. This was one of the most extensive projects in Sibley Peteet’s history, taking 14 months to create the 2,500 digital assets needed to build the final game.
